Bring Back Blue: Clean up the air by limiting particulate matter

Summer is Ozone Season

Blue skies over Camelback Mountain

The warmer months of April through September make up our Valley’s “ozone season.” Summers in Maricopa County provide plenty of heat and sunlight that cook trapped pollutants into ground-level ozone. You can reduce the amount of ozone that is created by driving less (and with gas prices as high as they are, you already have a great reason to drive less!).

Here are some ideas for cutting back on how much you drive:

  • Talk to your employer about telecommuting. Working from home can be highly productive.
  • Take the bus. The Metro Phoenix area has a terrific bus system.
  • Bike to work, or if you’re lucky enough to live close to your office, walk to work.
  • Carpool with co-workers.
  • Try to combine all of your errands – grocery shopping, post office, dry cleaners, etc – into a single trip.

BringBackBlue.org Has More Ozone Information

The new information also includes other easy ideas for how you can reduce the amount you contribute to the ozone problem. If everybody does a few simple things every day, we can Bring Back Blue skies.
